York Regional Police officers say nine people have been charged as part of a two-year, multi-jurisdictional illegal gambling investigation that saw a variety of items seized, including gaming machines, currency and drugs. According to a statement issued by York Regional Police Monday morning, the investigation — dubbed Project Scala — began in 2024 as a probe into “illegal gambling operations” in Vaughan and Toronto. MONTREAL — Prosecutors say two teens apprehended last week in connection with a double homicide in a First Nations community in northern Quebec are facing first-degree murder charges. Police were called to the residence on Allison Ann Way shortly before 8:30 a.m. Monday for a shooting. OTTAWA — Canadians have left more than $2 billion on the table by not cashing millions of paper cheques mailed out by the federal government, documents tabled recently in Parliament say. The data says roughly 3.9 million paper cheques that were issued to Canadians over the past four fiscal years — worth $2,159,665,155. — went uncashed.
