It’s being billed as “a new way to move across Toronto’s inner harbour” and it’s launching this summer. A pilot program is testing the feasibility of expanded water-based transit along the harbourfront, starting with an east-west shuttle covering a three-stop stretch of the city’s downtown waterfront. Nearly 38,000 votes were cast during advanced polling days in three crucial federal byelections, Chief Electoral Officer, Stéphane Perrault, estimates. Advanced polling was open for four days, starting last Friday, in the ridings of Scarborough Southwest (Ontario), Terrebonne (Quebec) and University–Rosedale (Ontario). Preliminary figures show some 37,900 electors voted at the advance polls, with the highest turnout in Terrebonne (18,200), followed by Scarborough Southwest (10,300) and University-Rosedale (9,400). The Toronto District School Board (TDSB) is planning for hundreds of job cuts for the 2026/2027 school year. In a statement to CityNews, the TDSB says it expects to employ 289 fewer secondary and elementary teachers this fall, citing falling enrolment. Ponce will have surgery on his ACL next week and is expected to miss at least six months, the team told reporters Tuesday. A 31-year-old man is facing several charges in connection to a Toronto police sexual assault investigation. Investigators allege in March the suspect contacted the victim through an online advertisement. The victim then went to the home of the accused where there was an exchange of money for sexual services. The man then allegedly assaulted and sexually assaulted the victim while preventing her from fleeing. She was able to escape but the suspect stole her belongings, police allege.
