CAMERON, N.C. (AP) — The 21-year-old North Carolina man who entered a gate at President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort with a shotgun before he was shot and killed worked as a golf course groundskeeper and liked to sketch. Austin Tucker Martin rarely, if ever, talked about politics, seemed afraid of guns, and came from a family of Trump supporters, according to Braeden Fields, a cousin who said the two grew up together. “I wouldn’t believe he would do something like this. It’s mind-blowing,” Fields said. “He wouldn’t even hurt an ant. He doesn’t even know how to use a gun.”…

OTTAWA — The Canada-Ukraine Foundation has asked Ottawa to match donations to support humanitarian work in the country as the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion approaches. Executive director Valeriy Kostyuk said while his organization has collected more than $100 million for Ukraine, demand for food and water, medical equipment and power generators continues to grow. The foundation is asking the federal government to match all private donations it receives in 2026. “If Ukraine stops fighting back, Ukraine will cease to exist,” Kostyuk said. “The bottom line is Russia can make that decision to stop the war.” More than a…

OTTAWA — The federal Liberals accepted a Conservative proposal Monday to put guardrails around proposed new cabinet powers as they debated the government’s omnibus budget bill. The finance committee tackled 606 clauses in the budget implementation legislation over five and a half hours Monday as MPs faced a tight timeline to review the fast-tracked Bill C-15. That legislation proposes to give federal ministers the ability to temporarily exempt individuals or corporations from some non-criminal federal laws — an approach the government refers to as “regulatory sandboxes.” Some members of Parliament have expressed discomfort with the idea of granting such sweeping…

NEW YORK (AP) — Early in the first episode of the “Scrubs” revival, Dr. John Dorian jumps onto Dr. Christopher Turk for a piggyback ride down the corridor of Sacred Heart Hospital like nothing’s changed in over a decade. But a lot has. For one, Turk, now a father of four, suffers from sciatica, cutting the tomfoolery short as they tumble to the ground. And, two, Dorian needs reading glasses. Turns out plenty has changed in the 17 years since “Scrubs” last ended its run. “They’re still 12 years old every time they’re together, but they’re also still both leading…

LONDON (AP) — British police on Monday arrested Peter Mandelson, a former U.K. ambassador to the United States, in a misconduct probe stemming from his ties to the late Jeffrey Epstein. It came days after a friendship with Epstein landed the former Prince Andrew in police custody. Both men are suspected of improperly passing U.K. government information to the disgraced U.S. financier, and the high-profile British arrests are some of the most dramatic fallout from the trove of more than 3 million pages of Epstein-related documents released last month by the U.S. Justice Department. London’s Metropolitan Police force said “officers…

TORONTO — Frank Stronach turned into a “different person” inside his hotel suite, growing more aggressive the more she pleaded with him to stop, a woman tearfully told the billionaire businessman’s sexual assault trial Monday. The woman, who is the fifth complainant to testify in the case, said she first encountered Stronach in the early 1980s, when she went to his restaurant, Rooney’s, with a friend who was dating him. She ran into him again when she went to Rooney’s with that same friend in the summer of 1990, and alone at a hotel restaurant in late October or early…

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says a baby formula sold online and at Costco is being recalled due to concerns of a toxin that can cause food poisoning. The federal agency says the one-kilogram containers of Kendamil brand infant formula that say “with whole milk” on the label may contain cereulide toxin, which can quickly cause nausea and vomiting. Cereulide is not destroyed by heat and can survive temperatures that would usually kill bacteria. The CFIA says no one has reported getting sick and that the recall was triggered by one in another country. Nestlé and Danone recently issued baby…

LONDON (AP) — It’s been 90 years since a British royal was removed from the line of succession. That might happen again now that Britain’s government says it will consider introducing legal changes to formally remove Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor from the list of royals in line to the throne. Despite being stripped of his status as prince in October over his close links with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, the former Prince Andrew, King Charles III’s younger brother, remains eighth in line to become monarch. Experts say the process of removing him from the line of succession could be…

NDP Leader Marit Stiles lashed out Monday at the province’s “terrible” decision to slash Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) grants. The changes include shifting to a loan-heavy model that caps the grants at 25 per cent — down from the current 85 per cent. Flanked by advocates and angry students at Queen’s Park, Stiles said the changes to OSAP couldn’t come at a worse time for Ontario youth and their families. “Terrible, terrible decision for Ontario,” she said. Stiles also took aim at Ford’s recent comments that seemed to blame some students for choosing courses that don’t result in the…
