One bill would tie rate increases to the rate of inflation, another takes aim at transmission projects. Two pieces of legislation have been introduced in Sacramento that their authors say will help reduce rising utility bills across California and rein in profits collected by investor-owned utilities, such as PG&E and San Diego Gas & Electric. A provision in Senate Bill 332 by Sen. Aisha Wahab, D-Fremont, would cap rate increases on residential customers to no more than the rate of inflation, in alignment with the Consumer Price Index. As Arctic air grips much of the nation, the stage is set for South Florida’s heat streak to end.
