Bonnyville resident, 66, dies in single-vehicle oil tanker rollover

The driver of an oil tanker died at the scene in Bonnyville on Saturday after a single-vehicle rollover on Range Road 485.

“Upon arrival, the oil tanker was located on its roof in a small creek. The driver, a 66-year-old resident of the MD of Bonnyville, was declared deceased at the scene,” said a news release from the Bonnyville RCMP, who responded to the scene along with Bonnyville Fire Department and EMS.

The report came in at 2:41 p.m.

There was an oil leak as a result of this collision and the road was closed to traffic for a few hours.

A provincial government dangerous goods inspector attended the scene, along with Alberta Energy representatives, who were overseeing the oil cleanup and vehicle recovery.

“RCMP sends condolences to the family and friends of the deceased,” the release noted.
