Adventure World is bringing back one of its most iconic attractions after almost a decade, with construction well under way on a new version the much-loved swinging pirate ship that became a rite of passage for generations of West Australians.
A building permit for a new iteration of the Bounty’s Revenge was approved in June by the City of Cockburn council, paving the way for site works at the Bibra Lake theme park.
Within months, construction crews have begun erecting the towering steel structure, with photos posted to social media showing the new ship swinging into place.
Adventure World quietly reopened its gates for the season on Saturday, but has made no formal announcement about the return of the Bounty’s Revenge.
But fan pages and local theme park watchers have been quick to share updates, with nostalgic comments flooding in.
“This ride used to make me so motion sick back in the day,” one commenter joked on Facebook.
The original ride operated at Adventure World for more than three decades, before being removed in 2016 to make way for new attractions, a move that left fans lamenting the loss.
The ride didn’t vanish entirely, with the battered hull finding its resting place inside the park, where a green kraken wraps its tentacles around the old pirate ship.
Generations of scorching-hot Perth summer holidays ended with dares to sit in the back rows, where the swing felt its wildest.
Almost a decade on, many of those former riders are parents themselves and will soon be able to take their children on the same ride that once tested their stomachs.
Adventure World has been approached for more comment but did not respond before deadline.
