Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit plans to drag Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh to court after they accused him of receiving funds from the BJP.

At a press conference on Tuesday, Dikshit announced that he would be suing the two AAP leaders for defamation. “I have decided to file a criminal and civil case against Atishi and Sanjay Singh for claiming I take crores of rupees from BJP,” he said.

Dikshit, the son of late Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, pledged to use the damages sought through his legal action for environmental initiatives in the capital.

“I will ask them to give me Rs 10 crore. I will donate Rs 5 crore for Yamuna cleaning and Rs 5 crore for the issue of pollution in Delhi,” he said.

This comes amid an all-out war between the AAP and Congress, both of which are gearing up for the Delhi Assembly elections in February. The controversy erupted after Congress leader Ajay Maken made disparaging remarks about AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal.

Stung by Maken’s allegations, Atishi alleged the Congress was hand-in-glove with the BJP ahead of the polls. She also accused Dikshit of being a BJP stooge and accepting large sums from the party.

AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh echoed the sentiment and threatened to urge INDIA bloc members to expel Congress from the alliance if no action is taken against Maken.

On the other hand, Dikshit, who is set to contest against former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi constituency, accused the AAP government of corruption and deceiving the public.

“The problem is not that a government exaggerates its performance, but it’s about a government lying blatantly,” Dikshit said, challenging Kejriwal to a public debate on the state government’s achievements.

“Come with government figures and sit face to face, and I will prove how the ‘vikas’ he is selling is fake,” he added.

Dikshit also criticised the AAP’s handling of issues such as electricity and water, and termed Kejriwal a “pathological liar” for allegedly exaggerating the work done by his government.

“They said there’s corruption in the electricity department and promised to get the rate down. The promise wasn’t subsidy—then why couldn’t they get the rate down? Did AAP find any anomalies in electric and water meters? The former Chief Minister of Delhi is a pathological liar,” he said.
