Connie Britton is not expected to be part of Peacock‘s reboot of Friday Night Lights.
Deadline reported in December that the streamer had landed the reboot of the football series, in which Britton played Tami Taylor for the TV adaptation of the H.G. Bissinger 1990 novel.
In a new interview with Parade, Britton said the reboot is “barely on her radar,” but she shared her hopes for the new cast to find a “sense of discovery there in terms of what they’re committing to and trying to accomplish.”
Reflecting on her time on the drama series, Britton said she almost didn’t take on the role after having a small part in the 2004 movie directed by Peter Berg.

“In the film, there was very little for me to do and even less so by the time it came out — whatever I had done was mostly on the cutting-room floor,” Britton told the publication. “And so when the TV show came around, I said, ‘No, thank you.’ I was really hoping for something more for myself than playing sort of the fly-on-the-wall wife character in a football show.”
However, Berg was “very persuasive” and ultimately convinced Britton to take on the role saying, “I really have to say, I worked pretty tirelessly with Pete, but then also with Jason Katims, who came in to run the show, really sort of standing up for the woman’s voice in that community, in that world.”
Britton starred in Friday Night Lights throughout its five-season run alongside Kyle Chandler, Zach Gilford, Minka Kelly, Taylor Kitsch, Jesse Plemmons, Aimee Teegarden, and Michael B. Jordan.
Friday Night Lights premiered on NBC in 2006 and followed a high school football team in rural Texas. After two seasons, the show was canceled but was saved by DirecTV, which ran for three additional seasons ending its run in 2011.
Earlier this year, Kitsch said that he had “been asked” to be part of the Friday Night Lights reboot, saying on SiriusXM’s The Spotlight with Jessica Shaw he was “flattered.”
“Never say never, but I would come in and do something, maybe for an episode or something, but I don’t wanna go and do the whole thing. I’d go and have fun but I don’t want to lead an FNL reboot or anything. I love the continuously challenging roles and to keep pushing,” he said, shutting down rumors he would take on the role of the football coach.
