The video shows a large group of Sikh men brawling with each other. Pausing the video at the 1:18 frame shows a blurry still of Gill.

However, both the Conservative party and the cultural centre deny that Gill was involved in the brawl and state that he was instead trying to de-escalate the fighting.

“Conservative candidate Amanpreet Gill was not involved in the fight. In fact, Mr. Gill intervened to break up the fight. This is a sad, desperate attempt from Hafeez Malik to smear an honourable man and the next MP for Calgary Skyview,” a Conservative Party spokesperson shared in an email.

The cultural centre also shared a letter from the centre’s president Baljinder Singh Gill, confirming that the Conservative party candidate was not involved in fighting.

“We wish to clarify that Mr. Amanpreet Singh Gill was not involved in any altercation or misconduct. On the contrary, he, along with other respected members of the Sikh community, was actively attempting to de-escalate a disagreement between two unrelated groups who were involved in a dispute with one another,” the letter reads.

Any statements or claims suggesting that Mr. Amanpreet Singh Gill was a participant in this altercation are inaccurate, misleading, and false. Such assertions are not supported by the facts or by the accounts of multiple witnesses present at the time.”

The letter asserts that the centre is supportive of Gill and his “conduct during the incident, which reflected responsibility and leadership in maintaining peace and order.”
