The e-scooter rider who died in a collision with a truck on the Canning Highway last week has been identified as 31-year-old WA man Kevin Sanders.
The crash happened about 10.30pm on Wednesday, May 28, at the East Fremantle intersection, and 9News Perth reported paramedics provided first aid, but the man died at the scene.
A friend of Sanders paid tribute to the avid scooter rider on Facebook.
“I lost my good friend of 2 year Kevin Sanders in a tragic crash with a truck,” Rhys Maher wrote.
“I’m definately devastated as I idealised this guy he teached me everything I know about E scooters and how to repair them wish you were still here brother you didn’t deserve this.
“But rest now G and ride that esky in the heaven’s to far and beyond love you G.”
Following the crash, a safety warning was issued by Royal Perth Hospital, where staff are seeing at least one patient a day with injuries from e-rideable vehicle accidents.
They reminded riders to slow down, don’t drink-and-ride and wear reflective gear at all times when on roads and paths.
Director of trauma Dr Dieter Weber said the vehicles are causing injuries they’ve not had to deal with before.
“These injuries have lasting effects, not just on our patients but their families around them and the rest of the community,” he said.
