Mickey Joe Harte is gutted to be the first celeb voted off Dancing With The Stars after having his hopes set on making it to a particular week for a very special reason.
The Eurovision star and his pro partner Daniela Roze were sent home on Sunday after dancing a Foxtrot to Hozier’s song Too Sweet, with him telling the audience it had been three weeks of ‘great craic’.
Speaking after the show, Mickey revealed he was particularly disappointed to be hanging up his dancing shoes as he’d been planning to dedicate a dance to his son who has transitioned from female to male.
He said: ‘I was hoping to get the dedication week, in week five, because my dedication was to my son who’s made the transition from female to male.
‘I was really hoping that we could get that far. After that, I didn’t really care, not that I didn’t care, but I would have been very, very pleased to do that.’
Mickey continued: ‘We had a nice dance planned and my son would have been involved and that would have been an important story to tell for people.
‘It just would have been nice to be able to do that for him and for ourselves and for people out there who are going through that as well or thinking about it and maybe just need that little bit of support and encouragement. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen but, you know, we may find another way.’
As for whether he had a plan in place for the routine, Mickey said: ‘We had some songs, Percy actually kind of nominated [some songs] as well, so we were just working on that and kind of waiting.
‘We kind of had one eye on it as we were pretty much still concentrating on the dances [he was learning for week one, two and three] as well. It would have been nice, but listen, it’s one of those things, but that was that was my initial goal to try and get there.’
Mickey has spoken previously about how his family was set to cheer him on for Dancing With The Stars and coming to the studio in week one.
The singer and his wife Louise have four children; Kayleigh, Kyle, Percy, and Cristian. Mickey and Louise are also grandparents, with Kayleigh and Kyle having children of their own.
Although Mickey and Daniela loved their Foxtrot, Mickey said he knew as soon as he saw who else was in the bottom three that he was in trouble.
He said: ‘I knew we were up against it [as the results were being called]. I knew Kevin’s [chef Kevin Dundon] vote would be strong and Danny’s [actor Danny O’Carroll], I prepared myself for the worst at that stage.
‘I’m just disappointed, I wanted to get through for a few more weeks and get established. And this is Daniela’s first year as well so I wanted to stick around for her.
Speaking further about his time on Dancing With The Stars, Mickey credited his pro partner with making it so special and said he’s a ‘better person for knowing’ her – so sweet!
Daniela returned the feeling, saying that Mickey had been a ‘pleasure to work with’ and really ‘put his life on hold’ to commit to rehearsing every day.
Ah, we’re gutted Mickey and Daniela are out of the competition but hopefully, they can come up with another lovely way to include Mickey Joe’s dedication in the show.
