A man has died after allegedly being thrashed by a mob on suspicion of cow slaughter in Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad. The death of Shahideen, a resident of Asalatpura, on Monday has sparked tensions in the area. Police have registered a case against the attackers following a complaint by Shahideen’s brother.

On Monday morning, locals allegedly spotted some individuals attempting to slaughter a stray cow. As the locals intervened, two of them managed to flee, while Shahideen was caught. The mob beat him with sticks, and rained punches and kicks, leaving him unconscious.

Shahideen, a former bodybuilder, was eventually rescued from the mob by police, who rushed him to a nearby hospital. However, despite treatment, he died on Monday night. His body was later handed over to his family.

Rashtriya Bajrang Dal (Meerut region) president Rohan Saxena, who was at the spot, claimed that the person was caught slaughtering a cow near the Mandi Samiti area.

Confirming the incident, senior police official Ranvijay Singh said the family of the deceased has filed a complaint, and a murder case has been registered.

“In the early hours of Monday, a cow was slaughtered. Several individuals fled, but one suspect was caught. An angry mob assaulted him before police intervened and took him to the hospital. Unfortunately, he died during treatment,” Singh said.

In his complaint, Shahideen’s brother said his sibling sustained grievous injuries during the assault.

Once a bodybuilder with a passion for fitness, Shahideen participated in several competitions. However, he suffered several health-related complications due to an addiction to supplements. This also cost him his job at a factory two years ago.

In recent years, Shahideen struggled to get a job and allegedly became involved in cow smuggling activities.
