Four people have been charged in the death of a B.C. inmate who was attacked and killed in a maximum-security prison.

Christopher Braun, who was serving a sentence at Agassiz’ Kent Institution for a second-degree murder conviction, died after a brawl broke out at the facility on Dec. 15.

Correctional officers reported a fight broke out in the cafeteria when several inmates began assaulting a lone victim.

One prisoner was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while two others suffered minor injuries.

Braun, 43, died from his injuries.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team was called in and took over the investigation.

On Thursday, the B.C. Prosecution Service approved a second-degree murder charge against Therae Racette-Beaulieu in Braun’s death.

Three others were charged, including Theodore Anderson, who was charged with aggravated assault and assault; Michael Okemow, who was charged with assault with a weapon and assault; and Joseph Goulet, who was charged with assault.
