GARDAI have started a crackdown at a popular Cork beaches and will issue fines for “bad parking”.
Cork has many gorgeous beaches including Inchydoney Beach and Barleycove Beach.
But those out enjoying the sunshine on the golden sand this summer will need to be extra careful about their parking.
The new garda crackdown will see cops on the look out for dangerous, illegal or obstructive parking.
More patrols have been added in Cork and motorists may be met with a fine on their windshield or in the post.
This includes parking on double yellow lines, blocking footpaths or cars blocking traffic.
It comes after up to 60 parking tickets were issued in Crosshaven and Myrtleville over a busy period in Cork last June.
The fines were primarily for blocking access for other other vehicles, including emergency vehicles.
Posting on social media, Gardai in Cork issued a warning for motorists.
They said: “Be conscious of parking this weekend! Especially around the beach areas.
“Increased patrols are being carried out and FCPN’s are being issued.
“Cards will be placed on some cars in the area to let people know they are issued.”
Gardai continued: “While a ticket may not be on our screen specifically, keep in mind they are being issued.
“Fines will be received in the post in two weeks.”
And the advice for road users trekking to beaches in Cork is clear.
Gardai warned: “When parking, make sure that you are not endangering other road users or pedestrians and that parking in the area is allowed.”
ROAD ALERT
And in another popular costal spot a separate alert has been issued for road users.
Galway County Council have confirmed installation works set to begin on a proposed solar farm at Ballymoneen will result in road closures.
The section of L7117 in Galway will force its closure this summer from 8am on Monday, June 16, until 6pm on Friday, August 22.
It will facilitate the installation of ducting services along the L7117 to the proposed solar farm at Ballymoneen.
And an alternative route for Irish drivers has been confirmed by the county council.
Motorists wanting to travel via the L7117 Grange East/Peakroe Road will be diverted via the R339, turn right onto the L3102 at Moor.
