431 Demonstration Squadron had early roots in World War II as a bomber squadron flying thousands of missions before being disbanded. The current team began in 1971 when another aeronautic team disbanded, the Golden Centennaires. An elementary school competition in Moose Jaw, Sask. was the creative source for the squadron’s new name and they first flew as the Snowbirds on July 11, 1976 during a Saskatchewan homecoming ceremony in Moose Jaw.
