The Haitian-American Republican based in Seminole sponsored Florida House Bill 903, which was recently added to the criminal justice subcommittee agenda.
Earlier this month, Martin introduced companion HB 1283 to punish human trafficking convicts with the death penalty when the victims are children or mentally incapacitated.
“It’s about retribution for our most vulnerable,” Jacques said about the bill during a recent public meeting.
Florida Sen. Jonathan Martin, a Fort Myers-based Republican, sponsored Florida Senate Bill 1604, and companion SB 1804 to support the same measures.
The Florida Senate’s criminal justice committee voted 5-2 on Tuesday to move SB 1604 forward.
Earlier this year, Florida lawmakers passed a bill implementing a mandatory death sentence for undocumented migrants convicted of capital offenses.
