Homicide detectives are investigating after an elderly man’s body was found at a home on Phillip Island – a popular day trip destination from Melbourne.
Police were called to a home at the intersection of Church Street and Justice Road in Cowes about 10.20am on Monday.
An unidentified man in his 80s was found dead and another man, believed to be in his 50s, was found with suspected self-inflicted injuries in Ventnor, around six kilometres from Cowes.
The man was taken to the hospital under police guard.
A spokesperson from Victoria Police confirmed the death was being treated as suspicious and said it appeared the people involved were known to one another.
The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be determined, and the investigation remains ongoing.
In an unrelated incident, homicide detectives are also investigating another death in regional Victoria on Monday, after a suspected stabbing in the Latrobe Valley.
Emergency services were called to O’Brien Lane in Moe just before 4.30pm and found a man with critical injuries.
Paramedics treated the man but he died at the scene.
More to come.
