Indirect ceasefire talks with Hamas and Israeli representatives began in Egypt on Monday in the Red Sea city of Sharm el-Sheikh.
The talks come after Hamas responded positively to U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal for peace in Gaza, though the group said more negotiations will be needed before a full agreement can be signed. Hamas said it will release all remaining hostages if Israel withdraws from Gaza and “proper field conditions are met.”
Intense and deadly Israeli attacks on Gaza City — the largest urban area in the Gaza Strip — and elsewhere in the devastated Palestinian territory have continued alongside the negotiations.

Trump says he may to travel to the Middle East this weekend as negotiations continue
Speaking at the White House on Wednesday, President Donald Trump said negotiations are proceeding “very well” and noted that he may travel to the Middle East this weekend.
“We have a great team over there, great negotiators, and there are unfortunately great negotiators on the other side also. But it’s something I think that will happen. Got a good chance of happening. I may go there sometime toward the end of the week. Maybe on Sunday, actually, and we’ll see,” Trump said.

“But there’s a very good chance that negotiations are going along very well,” he added.
The president said he was late to a roundtable meeting because he said he was on a phone call with “people from the Middle East, Arab people and other people on the potential peace deal for the Middle East.”
