An SUV driven by a police officer’s son rammed into a crowd in Jaipur on Thursday, injuring two people. Officials said that some members of the Sikh community were participating in a kirtan when the speeding Mahindra Thar struck the gathering.
The incident occurred at 8.30 pm in Jaipur’s Adarsh Nagar area, where around 300 people from the Sikh community had gathered for the religious event. An elderly man and a child were injured and were immediately rushed to the hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment.
Following the crash, an enraged mob attacked the SUV, which had four occupants. While three of them managed to flee the scene, the teen driver, reportedly the son of a police constable, remained at the site.
In the video, accessed by India Today TV, one man can be seen kicking the Thar while another man gets up on the bonnet and starts shattering the windscreen by hitting it with a stick repeatedly. Several others joined in attacking the car.
The police rushed to the spot soon after the incident and brought the situation under control. The jeep was subsequently seized, and the teen driver was arrested.
The Sikh community has demanded strict action against the driver.
