LASD announces $10,000 reward in fatal South LA shooting of woman

Authorities announced a $10,000 reward in the case of Raejonette Morgan, who was shot and killed in South Los Angeles last summer, as they release new images of the suspects’ car.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) — The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department announced a $10,000 reward in the case of a 22-year-old woman who was shot and killed in South Los Angeles.

Raejonette Morgan was fatally shot last summer while driving up to the 105 Freeway on-ramp in a white Mercedes.

Morgan was at a stop light on Imperial HIghway and Vermont Avenue when suspects driving a blue Honda Civic pulled up next to her and fired more than a dozen rounds.

Sheriff Robert Luna believes new images of the suspects’ vehicle could be vital to finding those responsible.

The 2016 to 2018 blue Honda Civic is a two-door with custom black rims, a front spoiler and appears to have a custom exhaust.

The mother of a woman killed in a South Los Angeles shooting met with L.A. County Sheriff Robert Luna to air concerns about a deputy who witnesses say did little to help the injured woman.

Cellphone video captured several minutes of the shooting aftermath.

It shows Morgan’s white Mercedes stopped on the sidewalk with the driver’s side window and door riddled with bullets just minutes after the gunfire ended.

The woman who shot the video said Morgan was still alive inside the car, motioning for help, but that a sheriff’s deputy first on the scene refused to render first aid to her.

Morgan died two days later on July 4.

The sheriff’s department said the deputy was unsure if the person in the car was the shooter or a victim and was calling for backup.

Morgan’s mom, Anginette Morgan, said her only daughter was kind and compassionate. She said Raejonette was pursuing a career in criminal justice while attending college.

“Every day I grieve for the relationship that was so cruelly taken. I mourn for the grandchildren I will never hold, for the future moments of joy that were erased in an instant,” Anginette said. “You didn’t just take a life, you took away an entire lifetime of possibilities.”

Sheriff Luna said the community is an invaluable partner in solving these crimes and urged anyone with information to come forward.

Morgan’s mother shared a similar sentiment, saying, “Every time I hear of another story of gun violence, I relive that unbearable day. The day my daughter took her last breath. This is not right. This cannot be the way we continue to live. If you have any information. If you saw something that night, please come forward and speak up.”

“I am confident with the sheriff’s department,” said the victim’s mother at the time. “I know that they are working as hard as they can. I know that it’s going to be a long road, but I do feel like we’re going to get to the bottom of this.”

Anyone with information about this case is urged to contact LASD’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. You can also call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS (8477) or submit at tip online on the Crime Stoppers website.
