Renowned sports broadcaster David ‘Thirsty’ Morrow has announced his retirement from his commentary role on the Continuous Call Team (CCT), effective immediately, following a recent diagnosis of brain cancer. The news was shared this morning by close friend and colleague Ray Hadley on behalf of Morrow’s family.
In an emotional statement on The Ray Hadley Morning Show, Hadley expressed the station’s deep affection for Morrow, highlighting his immense contribution to sports broadcasting in Australia. He described Morrow not only as a work colleague but as a dear friend to everyone at the station and network.
Luke Davis, Head of Content at 2GB, paid tribute to Morrow’s remarkable career spanning over 52 years, during which he covered a myriad of sports events. Morrow’s distinctive voice has been synonymous with some of the most memorable sporting moments in Australia and across the globe. His tenure with the Continuous Call Team and Nine Radio family for the past nine years has solidified his status as a beloved figure among both staff and listeners.
Throughout his illustrious career, Morrow has provided commentary for numerous prestigious events, including eight Olympic Games, six Commonwealth Games, and an astonishing 44 seasons of first-grade NRL. His dedication and passion for sports broadcasting earned him an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in 2005 for his outstanding services to the community, sport, and sports broadcasting. Last year, he was further honored as the 28th inductee into the SCG Media Hall of Honour.
Following Morrow’s retirement, Mark Levy will assume the lead commentator role for the Continuous Call Team’s 2024 season, supported by Mathew Thompson and Chris Warren.
