I appeal to the aspiring nominees for Edmonton city council: end the city’s war on cars. Has anyone tried a cross-town commute recently, south to north, especially? Construction and a singular failure to develop the city’s road network, particularly its feeder roads, have left the network cinched and strangled. Anyone who has to commute south to north will know what I mean. Examples include 75 Street to Wayne Gretzky Drive, and 99 Street from 23 Avenue north. These roads need some of their minor intersections closed off to improve flow, and their traffic lights need to be removed. Granted that some access to communities like Ottewell might be affected, but the impact on many others will be greater if traffic cannot be freed up. Uncinch the road network, end the war on cars.

(It’s one topic that seems under-addressed this election.)
Bad changes
We have a former TSN man running the CFL now. It’s all about the Argos and MLSE getting into the NFL. I, for one, have had enough. Ticat season seats for years, but not renewing for 2026 .

(It has sparked a lot of debate among fans.)
Provincial overreach
The Alberta government has stated that they are going to limit municipal property tax increases. While this may sound good on the surface but this is an infringement on the citizens of municipalities’ right to decide through the election process who should make that decision. If citizens want to have lower property tax increases, they should pay close attention to the platforms of those seeking a seat in their government. We, the citizens, have a clear opportunity to express that very idea through our democratic right to vote this October. If you want lower property taxes, don’t vote by name recognition but by the platform the candidate is presenting. Become more aware because you get what you vote for.
George Colgan
(Now, if only voters would vote for lower taxes.)
Not Trump’s fault
Re: “U.S. president’s disdain for the rest of us”, letters, Sept. 23. So when anything bad happens, blame Trump, is that right? There’s been political nastiness occurring in the USA before and there will probably be the same after Trump. I’m not totally defending the man. But your obvious dislike of him is blinding your objectivity. Trump did not fire Kimmel; rather, Kimmel’s blatant lies regarding Charlie Kirk started his own downfall.
Stuart C Bron
(Trump’s dislike of Kimmel was also very apparent.)
