A 25-year-old Champlain Township man has been charged with attempted murder after another man was stabbed Thursday night in a Hawkesbury park.

An Ontario Provincial Police officer was flagged down outside a Main Street East residence at about 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

The officer was informed that a 39-year-old victim had been assaulted in the nearby Pioneer Park area.

Backup officers converged on the scene and performed first aid on the victim until Russell County paramedics arrived.

The victim was transported to hospital, but was quickly transferred to a regional trauma centre because of the severity of his injuries.

Officers located and arrested a suspect in the area.

Police identified the suspect as Alexandre Piette-Racine of Champlain Township.
