MARKS & Spencer has given an update on when they will reopen their stores as Storm Eowyn batters Ireland.
Red level wind warnings are in place for the entire country this morning as “hurricane-force” gusts sweep the country.
All of Ireland’s major shops have remained closed this morning for safety reasons.
Marks & Spencer said they will reopen their branches “one hour” after warnings have been lifted.
A spokesperson wrote: “As a result of the Red Weather Warning guidance issued for Ireland, all M&S stores will be temporarily closed, Friday 24th January.
“We plan to reopen one hour after Red Weather Warnings lift in local areas, if safe to do so.
“You can still shop online at marksandspencer.ie. Please stay safe.”
Aldi Ireland, which has 163 stores, said: “For the safety of our colleagues and customers, all ALDI Ireland stores will remain closed during the red weather warnings, which come into effect overnight.
“We will reopen only when it is deemed safe to do so.
“We will keep you updated. Stay safe.”
Lidl Ireland also said its 181 shops will open when it is safe to do so.
They said: “Due to Storm Eowyn, all Lidl Ireland/Lidl Northern Ireland stores will close on Friday 24 January during any red weather warning that is in place.
“Stores are planned to reopen one hour after weather warnings lift in local areas, if safe to do so.
“Customers are advised to check latest weather warning information for their local area. Stay safe.”
SuperValu has said safety remains a “top priority” for the chain.
They said: “We would like to reassure our customers that we are well prepared for Storm Eowyn and ready to look after you.
“Our shelves are fully stocked with the freshest of produce and the essentials you need.
“The safety of our staff and customers remains our top priority and please check your local stores Facebook page for latest updates.”
Dunnes Stores, with 119 branches, will also close their stores until 12 pm, 1 pm, and 4 pm depending on when the red alerts are lifted.
Some 178 Tesco supermarkets will reopen at 1pm.
WHEN WILL RED ALERT END?
A NUMBER of red warnings have been issued by Met Eireann for today.
- 2am-10am: Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Cork, Kerry, Limerick and Waterford
- 3am -11am: Clare and Galway
- 4am-12pm: Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo
- 6am-11am: Cavan, Monaghan, Dublin, Kildare, Laois, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Wicklow, Roscommon and Tipperary
- 7am-2pm: Donegal
- 7am-2pm: Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone and Derry
