DALLAS — The Dallas Zoo welcomed a new bird Friday, one of less than 50 in zoos across the U.S.
The bird, a Rüppell’s griffon vulture chick, hatched at the zoo this week. The Zoo announced the hatching on its social media Friday afternoon.
Rüppell’s griffon vultures are critically endangered and face severe population declines from habitat loss, the zoo said.
“With fewer than 50 of these birds in AZA-accredited zoos, every successful hatch is a crucial step in securing their future,” the zoo said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
