It’s almost time to waltz into a new season of Dancing With The Stars and Mickey Joe Harte will have his hometeam cheering for him on Sunday night.
His wife Louise and three of their children will be in the studio to cheer him on while his biggest fan – and the family member the most excited for his DWTS stint – will be watching from home.
Chatting ahead of his debut, Mickey admitted that he’s ‘completely out of my comfort zone’ despite having experience performing in front of live audiences from Eurovision.
‘Eurovision was nervewracking but this is a different type of nerves. It’s just something that I’ve never had to deal with. I’m completely out of my comfort zone, all of the contestants are really,’ he said.
We’re sure his nerves will be helped on the night by having four friendly faces in the form of his wife Louise and three of their kids in the crowd.
‘We have three of the kids coming up with Louise [for the first show],’ Mickey said. ‘We get four tickets so it’s making sure friends and family who want to come can.’
As for the most excited member of the family, Mickey said that title has to go to his mam.
‘ She loves the show and she still dances herself,’ Mickey said. ‘She’s 84 and she still dances. She loves the Foxtrot and all those kind of things.
‘She is excited and she’s nervous. I spoke to her last night, actually, and she was very nervous for me,’ he admitted with a laugh.
As for whether she’ll be able to come to the live shows, Mickey said: ‘I had her at a show maybe a few years ago where they used We’ve Got the World, someone danced to that, and to be honest, she enjoyed the experience but she much preferred being at home and being able to see it all.
‘It’s weird. She said she didn’t see as much in the studio, so she’s not pushed about coming to the studio to be honest. We only get four tickets, so it’s at least one less problem for me to solve!’
Mickey and his pro dance partner Daniela will be kicking off their Dancing With The Stars journey by performing a Pasa Doble to Teenage Kicks by The Undertones. Bring it on!
