One man shot, another on the run after confrontation in Queens home

Darla Miles reports from Queens with the latest details on the shooting.

SPRINGFIELD GARDENS, Queens (WABC) — Police are searching for the person who shot a man at a home in Queens.

The shooting happened around 10:30 a.m. on Friday at a home on 128th Avenue in Springfield Gardens.

According to the NYPD, the 38-year-old victim was hired by a home appraiser to the move cars in the front yard and driveway in order to take pictures of the house.

Assuming it was vacant, they say he climbed in a window, was confronted by people living in the house, was chased out and then shot in the left ankle.

“I heard two shots. Pop. Pop. That’s it,” said witness Barry Granger.

Within minutes of the shooting, police say the suspect ran into the house and fled through a back door.

The sight of the victim being dragged by his legs to safety was followed by an onslaught of NYPD officers and a SWAT team, spending hours at the home.

“The cop was pulling him across the street, and he was screaming, screaming in agony and pain,” said witness Barry Granger.

NewsCopter 7 was over the scene as police officers surrounded the house out of an abundance of caution.

“It’s crazy-ville. I just hear the helicopters and the police,” said neighbor Gloria Ferguson. “Just hearing those sirens all morning. So, I’m like, what’s going on?”

First responders transported the victim to Jamaica Hospital in stable condition.

Detectives are looking into the ownership of the home and whether the suspect should have been there.
