Olivia Munn Reveals Breast Cancer Battle: Inspires with Courageous Journey
Actor Olivia Munn bravely revealed on social media Wednesday that she has been battling breast cancer, disclosing that she underwent four surgeries in the past 10 months, including a double mastectomy.
In an Instagram post accompanied by poignant photos of her hospital journey, the 43-year-old actor shared her diagnosis with the hope of offering comfort, inspiration, and support to others facing similar challenges.
Munn disclosed that despite negative results from a test for cancer genes and a normal mammogram in February 2023, she received the shocking diagnosis two months later. She credited her doctor’s decision to conduct a risk assessment for breast cancer, which ultimately led to the early detection of the aggressive cancer in both of her breasts.
“The fact that she did saved my life,” Munn expressed her gratitude for her doctor’s proactive approach.
Following the biopsy confirming the diagnosis, Munn underwent a double mastectomy just 30 days later. Reflecting on her journey, she acknowledged feeling fine one day and waking up in a hospital bed after a 10-hour surgery the next. Despite the challenges, Munn considers herself fortunate to have had options due to the early detection.
Throughout her treatment, Munn leaned on the unwavering support of her partner, John Mulaney, who stood by her side before and after each surgery. Mulaney, who attended the Oscars with Munn on Sunday, expressed his love and admiration for her resilience in a heartfelt comment on her post.
Munn also received words of encouragement from former “CBS Evening News” anchor Katie Couric, who herself battled breast cancer in 2022, showcasing the solidarity within the community of survivors.
The actor emphasized the importance of privacy during her recovery process but felt compelled to share her story once she had the strength to do so. She expressed her gratitude for the outpouring of support and vowed to continue fighting.
As Munn navigates her journey with courage and grace, her openness serves as a beacon of hope for others facing similar battles. Through her vulnerability and resilience, she continues to inspire and uplift countless individuals around the world.
