‘Stumbling into Beauty’

Visitors to Hakone Estate and Gardens may find themselves “Stumbling into Beauty” via a photography exhibit in the Cultural Exchange Center.

In her exhibit, subtitled “Japan through a contemplative lens,” photographer and architect Bonnie Blake-Drucker depicts light, shadow and movement as part of the Japanese principle of “Ichi-go, Ichi-e” — the idea that every moment should be cherished.

“Stumbling into Beauty” runs through June. Visitors should call Hakone at 408-741-4994 to check if the exhibit will be open on the day they want to visit. Visit hakone.com/events to learn more.

Brubecks at Montalvo

The Brubeck Brothers Quartet is set to perform Friday, Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m. at Saratoga’s Montalvo Arts Center.

Chris and Dan Brubeck along with guitarist Mike DeMicco and pianist Chuck Lamb will play “straight-ahead” jazz that incorporates the influence of funk, blues and world music. Tickets start at $62 at https://my.montalvoarts.org/events.

Planning commissioner sought

The city of Saratoga is seeking to fill a seat on the planning commission starting in April.

Interested residents can apply through Feb. 21 to serve on the commission and advise the council on matters including land use and zoning. Applicants must have attended a planning commission meeting on either Jan. 22 or Feb. 12. Visit saratoga.ca.us/331/Vacancies for more information.
