Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, on Tuesday, condemned Maharashtra Fisheries Minister Nitesh Rane’s statement calling Kerala a “mini Pakistan”, describing it as “provocative and condemnable”. He accused Rane of echoing the Sangh Parivar’s divisive agenda, stating that such rhetoric aims to alienate Kerala for resisting their influence.

Vijayan said the remark violated the Constitution and called for Rane’s resignation. “It is surprising that the ruling party’s leadership has not reacted to this serious breach of oath,” the Chief Minister added. He also took to social media to denounce the comment as “deeply malicious and utterly condemnable,” urging secular and democratic forces to unite against hate campaigns.

Maharashtra Minister Nitesh Rane sparked controversy on Monday by calling Kerala a “mini Pakistan” and alleging that Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were elected as MPs from the state because “terrorists voted for them.” Rane claimed, “They have become MPs after taking terrorists with them. This is the truth.”

Facing sharp criticism, Rane later clarified his remarks, stating he was drawing a comparison between the situation in Kerala and Pakistan. “The way Hindus are treated in Pakistan… if such situations happen in our very own country, we must take action against that. That is what I was trying to say in my speech,” he explained.

He also alleged issues of religious conversion and “love jihad” in Kerala. Meanwhile, Congress leader KC Venugopal demanded a response from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, terming Rane’s remarks as part of an orchestrated hate campaign.
