Queensland Cricket Foundation Backs Indigenous Cricket Development with $5,000 Donation:

Queensland Cricket Foundation has reaffirmed its commitment to Indigenous cricket development by pledging $5,000 in support of the Stan Alberts Shield, an Indigenous T20 carnival held in Rockhampton. The donation from Queensland Cricket Foundation played a crucial role in covering various expenses associated with the carnival, including field facilities, wicket preparation, umpiring, and administrative costs for scoring.

The Stan Alberts Shield, now in its ninth year, showcases the talent and diversity within Queensland cricket, with 12 teams competing across four divisions: Juniors, Ladies, Masters, and Senior Men’s competitions. This carnival serves as a vital platform for nurturing Indigenous cricket talent and fostering pathways for aspiring players within the state.

Kieren Gibbs, Queensland Cricket’s First Nations Project Officer, highlighted the significance of grassroots community carnivals like the Stan Alberts Shield in advancing Indigenous cricket programs and pathways. “Having these grassroots community carnivals really helps us build that Indigenous base and players for our state, and that feeds us through into our pathways and programs inside Queensland Cricket,” Gibbs emphasized.

The support provided by Queensland Cricket Foundation underscores its dedication to Indigenous cricket development and aligns with the organization’s Reconciliation Action Plan, where fostering greater participation and inclusivity in cricket is a key priority.

Gibbs expressed gratitude for the generosity of organizations and businesses that contribute to Queensland Cricket Foundation’s Indigenous cricket initiatives, enabling outreach to remote areas and facilitating cricket engagement among children, men, and women in Indigenous communities.

The Stan Alberts Shield not only celebrates the rich diversity of cricket talent within Queensland but also serves as a cornerstone for the continued growth and development of Indigenous cricket and pathways in the state. Through initiatives like the Stan Alberts Shield, Queensland Cricket Foundation aims to create opportunities and inspire the next generation of Indigenous cricket stars.
