Fallen Chicago Police Officer Aréanah Preston now has a scholarship established in her name. Preston was just days away from graduating with a master’s degree from Loyola’s School of Law when she was killed.

Fallen Chicago Police Officer Aréanah Preston now has a scholarship established in her name at Loyola University Chicago.

CHICAGO (WLS) — Fallen Chicago Police Officer Aréanah Preston now has a scholarship established in her name.

Preston was shot and killed during a robbery attempt in 2023, just after finished her shift.

Preston was just days away from graduating with a master’s degree from Loyola’s School of Law when she was killed.

The Aréanah Preston Memorial Scholarship will provide financial support to Chicago police officers and civilian staff and students pursuing studies at the School of Law who demonstrate a commitment to public service, social justice, and community impact.

“Aréanah was not able to graduate, walk across stage let me say that, but this is a very special one for me because even in her death, she’s giving back.,” Preston’s mother, Dionne Mhoon, said. “It’s a great thing for me, although it’s always bittersweet, it’s always bittersweet, but I think that she would be so very proud that we are doing such a thing.”

Her family established the Peace for Preston foundation in honor of the slain officer.

“I’m struggling with my new life, a life without a big sister seems unfair,” Preston’s sister, Amiyah Preston, said.

On Wednesday, the foundation gathered to establish a scholarship in her name at Loyola University Chicago.

“She was a daughter of Chicago whose spirit ignited by the love of those around her and in her community,” Chicago Police Department Chief Yolanda Talley said.
