Oakland police were investigating a homicide fo the 17th time in 2025 following the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old woman at an apartment early Sunday.
OAKLAND — A 19-year-old woman died Sunday morning, and another person was arrested following a shooting at an apartment, police said.
Officers arrested a man in his 30s in the area of the shooting, according to police. The gunfire happened in the 2600 block of 74th Avenue at about 8:20 a.m.
Authorities did not release immediately the name of the victim, pending notification of relatives. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The homicide is the 17th one investigated by Oakland police in 2025. In 2024 at this time, they had investigated 13.
Police have not said whether the man and woman knew each other. They said were still investigating to determine what was the motive for the shooting.
