Southampton made sure they will avoid an unwanted Premier League record after claiming a surprise goalless draw against Manchester City.
While third-placed City’s hopes of finishing in the top-five took a slight blow, Aston Villa joined two other teams on 63 points – just two behind Pep Guardiola’s side – by beating Bournemouth 1-0.
Champions Chelsea completed an unbeaten season in the Women’s Super League, while Arsenal secured the runners-up spot after beating rivals Manchester United in a seven-goal thriller.
Saints pass Derby’s record low
Sorry if we got your hopes up, @dcfcofficial 😬

Southampton finally rid themselves of the spectre of being crowned the joint-worst team in Premier League history after holding Manchester City to a 0-0 draw.
Rock-bottom and already relegated, Saints battled to secure their 12th point of a sorry season, which eased them past Derby’s record low tally of 11 in 2007-08 campaign.
The record has been all anyone has talked about around the club since about November, so bad have Saints been this term.
Southampton’s official X account even had a cheeky message for the Rams, saying: “Sorry if we got your hopes up.”
City wobble but Villa thrive
City boss Guardiola accepted his side will have to “fight until the end” in their bid to claim a spot in the Champions League next season.
Villa, though, had better fortunes on the south coast, moving level on points with Newcastle and Chelsea, who meet at St James’ Park on Sunday, after edging out Bournemouth thanks to Ollie Watkins’ goal.
England international Watkins moved on to 75 top-flight strikes for Villa – one more than Gabriel Agbonlahor – and head coach Unai Emery said: “It’s fantastic, brilliant.
“He deserves it completely because he is a hard worker. He is committed with Aston Villa. His courage has been fantastic and to achieve it is very fantastic. I am so, so grateful to have a player like him.”
Chelsea make history and Arsenal finish second
Chelsea completed a 22-game season unbeaten after Aggie Beever-Jones’ stoppage-time goal secured a 1-0 win over Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues, who also won the League Cup, will now be aiming to complete a domestic treble when they face Manchester United in the FA Cup final on May 18.
United missed the chance to finish second in the table as Arsenal ensured runners-up spot with a 4-3 win over Marc Skinner’s side.
After Ella Toone had cancelled out Chloe Kelly’s opener, Arsenal looked to be cruising thanks to Mariona Caldentey’s penalty and goals from Frida Maanum and Kim Little, but Elisabeth Terland’s strike and Maya Le Tissier’s spot-kick set up a nervy finale, only for the Gunners to cling on.
Celtic go even further clear
Celtic came from behind to beat Hibernian 3-1 as the champions extended their lead at the top of the William Hill Premiership to 20 points.
Martin Boyle gave the visitors the lead, but Celtic turned the game around with two goals in four minutes just before the break from Nicolas Kuhn and Adam Idah.
Reo Hatate scored his 11th goal of the season in the second half as Celtic inflicted just a second defeat in 20 league matches on David Gray’s team, who remain three points above Aberdeen in the race for third place.
Hoops manager Brendan Rodgers said: “How we pressed the game from the first minute to the end made me so proud of the team. Just that ethic and mentality to win, and then that gave us the platform to play our football.”
What’s on today?
It is first v second with Liverpool welcoming Arsenal to Anfield but with the Premier League title sewn up, all eyes will be on fourth against fifth as Newcastle host Chelsea at St James’ Park.
Victory for either side would see them leapfrog Manchester City into third and be a welcome boon for their hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.
Nottingham Forest have dropped to seventh following Villa’s win, but could be back in the top five if they beat already-relegated Leicester, who have only local pride to play for.
Europa League finalists Manchester United and Tottenham are also in action at home, with West Ham visiting Old Trafford and Crystal Palace travelling to Spurs.
Wycombe host Charlton in their Sky Bet League One play-off semi-final, while Chesterfield take on Walsall in the League Two equivalent.
