A crash and a police incident around the same time on the Trans-Canada Highway in Burnaby have commuters experiencing major delays Tuesday afternoon.

Drive B.C. says there was a vehicle incident shortly before 1 p.m. eastbound on Highway 1 between Central Valley Greenway and North Road forced the closure of the HOV lane for a short stretch.

Less than half an hour later, a police incident, also eastbound, between North Road and Exit 40: Brunette Avenue in Coquitlam blocked two right lanes. That added to the congestion with the HOV lane already blocked.

Updates on the lane closures are expected shortly after 2 p.m., said Drive B.C.
