Josalyn Fowler was charged in the murder of Kevin Patel. He was shot and killed in a shooting on Lill Avenue in Lincoln Park last Wednesday night.
CHICAGO (WLS) — A woman has been charged relating to last week’s deadly shooting in Lincoln Park, police said.
Alderman Timothy Knudsen of the 43th Ward said the arrest was a community effort. It came while the victim’s family is not only fighting for justice in this case, but also using his shooting death to fight for others.

The shooting took place at about 9:20 p.m. in the 800-block of West Lill Avenue on April 16, Chicago police said.
Kevin Patel, 28, was shot in the chest just steps away from his home, officials said.
Close friends of the victim told ABC7 he was from the Philadelphia-area but was living and working in Chicago.
Nearly a week after his death, Chicago police said two persons of interest were in custody.
Josalyn Fowler, 25 of Thornton, was charged with two counts of murder and one count of attempted robbery.
“We’ve got a heartbroken community in the 43rd Ward. This murder was so senseless,” Ald. Knudsen said. “The community, really, rallied together to provide our office and the detectives a lot of camera footage, a lot of information, that I believe resulted in the arrest.”
Last week, witnesses told investigators they saw a man and woman running from the scene before police arrived.
Police said a second person-of-interest was brought in for questioning, but at this time no charges have been filed against that person.
Police wouldn’t say if that second person-of-interest was released from custody without charges.
Fowler is due in court Friday morning.
A GoFundMe has been set by the family of Patel.
“…intelligent, kind, caring, and loving to anyone he met,” is how Kevin Patel’s brother described the 28-year-old in the online fundraiser – with all proceeds going to anti-gun violence causes, saying “…we vow to do whatever it takes to bring justice to this vicious act and to help prevent this from happening to anyone else’s child, sibling, significant other, or friend.”
Alderman Knudsen sent the following note to the community:
“Our commitment continues to the family of the victim and our whole 43rd Ward Community in prosecuting this senseless homicide to the maximum extent. Today signifies the first, but crucial step towards that and I vow to work directly with the Cook County State’s Attorney, Eileen O’Neil Burke, to ensure that this is accomplished.”
