Although my family landed in Canada in 1842, our heritage dates all the way back to ninth-century Ireland. Over those centuries, Irish folklore and fantasy storytelling found itself brethren to outright blarney at times.

I am reminded of this when I hear the Irish citizen, Mark “Blarney” Carney, eloquently navigating around the truth, telling bedtime stories, searching for yet another pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, with the promise of many more “sunny ways.”

Canadians are anxiously awaiting for his announcement that the Liberal party has plans to replace all fossil-fuel energy with carbon-free pixie dust and the guarantee of a unicorn for every backyard.

Carefree dreaming is always magical when someone else has to pay for the pillow.

KEEP TRUMP OUT OF CANADA

Re: No felons in Canada, Donald, letters to the editor, Feb. 23

Why is Donald Trump allowed in Canada to attend the G7 meeting? He is a felon and Canada doesn’t allow felons to enter Canada.

If he should attend the 2025 G7 meeting, don’t be surprised if he bullies, manipulates or even threatens those in attendance.

Keep him out of Canada — please.

WHAT ABOUT GRETZKY?

At the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, many sports journalists demanded that Washington Capitals superstar Alex Ovechkin speak out against Vladimir Putin. They said his relationship with Putin would taint his legacy and all of his accomplishments.

I wonder, will the same be true of Wayne Gretzky? He is close friends with Donald Trump.  He attended his inauguration. And he has not spoken out publicly regarding Trump’s threats.
