Hooray! We have yet another spineless PM in Mark Carney who has, in essence, given de facto pipeline vetoes to B.C. and the First Nations.

In other words, we will never again complete any badly needed “nation-building project” in Canada.

Lorne Gunter writes, ”As a country, we never have a shortage of people eager to kill all economy-enhancing projects” before they even begin.

These radical elements of our society will be the ones to scream the loudest when, as Lorne writes, our governments run out of revenues to cover “free” government benefits like health care and education.

A PLAN B FOR OLYMPIC HOCKEY

It appears now that NHL players may not participate in the Olympics as the rink may not be ready in time, there are concerns about ice quality and the ice surface is smaller than at NHL arenas. And suddenly there is no backup plan.

Well, it doesn’t take a genius to look towards other countries to hold the games. Italy has had plenty of time to get ready, but it has failed. Why can’t the tournament be played in Switzerland or Germany where rinks are ready to go? I am sure the Olympic committee can strike a deal to use arenas located there. Or since the NHL arenas are not being used, have the tournament in Canada and the United States.

There is always a Plan B.

Re: Public safety private business; Sutcliffe floats new security plan for ByWard Market, Dec. 6

So, Mayor Mark Sutcliffe has designated $1 million towards a ByWard Market two-year pilot project for “private security guards” at key locations in the Market.

If by “private security guards” Sutcliffe means the same sort of guards seen at grocery stores during high school lunch time, in banks or at The Dollar Store on weekends, he might as well put $1 million in a bag and toss it out the window.

Sutcliffe needs to explain what the ByWard Market “private security guards” will be trained to do because, right now, I’m thinking, toss me a SECURITY vest and sign me up!
