Is there anyone out there who can explain to me just what Premier Doug Ford is up to these days? I noticed his last adventure had him pouring a very good and drinkable bottle of Crown Royal whisky down the drain. I’ve been advised that connoisseurs of the fine whisky are crying in their beer as we speak.
It would appear to me that the parent company had a very good reason for closing the plant. Perhaps, if Doug and the boys threw some free money the company’s way, they could be induced to remain open? After all, the list of companies receiving billions of dollars for items like car batteries and such grows exponentially as we speak. (Editor’s note: Ford said he asked the company if there were any incentives Ontario could provide to save the jobs, but he was told no.)

In my opinion, Ford wants a national pulpit to preach the Conservative way. Watch out, Pierre Poilievre, it appears Dougie may be looking for your job. As if this country would stand for a prime minister from Toronto.

NO JUSTICE WITH FRASER
Anyone who has followed Sean Fraser’s appalling record as Justin Trudeau’s immigration, then housing minister should not be surprised he is disastrous as justice minister. It is shocking that PM Mark Carney rewarded him with this serious and important position.
Under Trudeau’s weak-on-crime, revolving-door justice system, violent crime in Canada rose by about 40 per cent. With Justice Minister Fraser, Canadians will continue to get more of the same.

REVERSE THE ONUS
Re: Judges trample on homeowners’ right to defend themselves, Lorne Gunter column, Sept. 3
A great idea by the Conservatives to change the Criminal Code so the default presumption by police and Crown prosecutors has to be that, when repelling an intruder, a homeowner is justified in his or her actions.
It’s time to place the “justifiability” for one’s actions on the intruder who is breaking into your home, as opposed to the homeowner now having to justify their actions in defending their home.
Regarding the recent incident in Lindsay, Ont., it seems like the alleged intruder had many an opportunity to change his ways as he was out on parole at the time and was wanted for several other offences.
Regardless of what you think of the actions the homeowner took in defending his residence and property, the old adage rings true: “It’s better to be judged by 12 than carried by six.”
