All southbound lanes of the 405 Freeway were shut down in the Encino area following a crash involving several cars Tuesday morning.
ENCINO, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — At least one person was killed in a reported wrong-way crash on the 405 Freeway in Encino, prompting the closure of all southbound lanes Tuesday morning.
The crash was reported shortly after 4 a.m. at Valley Vista Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol’s traffic log.
Details about what led up to the crash were limited. The CHP said it was first reported as a wrong-way crash, but that was still being investigation.
Several cars were involved in the collision. AIR7 was over the scene where the vehicles were strewn across the roadway.
Authorities said one person died at the scene and another was taken to the hospital in unknown condition.
The incident prompted the complete closure of the freeway, snarling early morning drivers in a backup all the way to the 118 Freeway.
It’s unclear when lanes would reopen.
