A man has been arrested at Brisbane Airport and charged with murder after a woman was allegedly stabbed and died at a home in Brisbane’s north-west.
Police were called to a home on Chestnut Place, The Gap, about 4.20pm on Monday, after reports a neighbour had discovered an elderly woman in a front yard suffering stab wounds.
Paramedics also attended the residence, and the woman, 79, was declared dead at the scene.
Police established a crime scene and launched a search across Brisbane’s northside on Monday evening, before a man was arrested at Brisbane International Airport about 6.25pm.
Neighbours said they had not noticed any disturbance before the search was launched.
The man, a 40-year-old from Victoria, was understood to have been known to the woman but was not her partner.
He was charged with murder (domestic violence offence), and would appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Queensland Police had formally released little detail on Monday night, the Australian Federal Police were contacted for comment, and Brisbane Airport declined to comment.
