Firefighters in Fort Lauderdale battled a mobile home fire Tuesday night, bringing the flames under control after a 20-minute effort, authorities confirmed Wednesday.
Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue said crews responded just before 10:30 p.m. to the RV park along the 600 block of Southwest 27th Avenue, where they found the home fully engulfed, the department said in a post on X.
No injuries were reported.
According to Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue PIO Frank Guzman, investigators are treating the fire as an act of arson and a man was arrested in connection with the case.
Witnesses told Local 10 News that the man, identified only as Ricky, was arrested by the Broward Sheriff’s Office for allegedly setting the fire intentionally. They said Ricky and the mobile home’s owner had been in a dispute over unpaid bills.
With the suspect now in custody, his dog, Sonny, was left behind. A neighbor has since taken the dog in.
A fire investigator remains at the scene working to determine the exact cause.
