GRAND SALINE, Texas — A tornado left at least six property owners in Van Zandt County with damage Friday.
Tornado warnings were issued for parts of North Texas Friday afternoon, which included Delta, Hopkins, Lamar and Rains Counties. The National Weather Service (NWS) surveyed the area and confirmed that an EF-0 tornado touched down in Van Zandt County, south and east of Grand Saline.
According to the NWS, the tornado had a nine-mile path with a width of 75 yards. NWS said the tornado had maximum winds of 80 mph.
The Grand Saline Fire Department confirmed to WFAA that the damage ranges from minor to severe but that no injuries have been reported.
Off of FM 1255, the home Kamron Martin rents showed evidence of a twister. Martin inside a bathtub with a mattress when the severe weather came his way. Debris was scattered about his property, trees were toppled and uprooted, and the wall from Martin’s upstairs bedroom was ripped from the foundation, creating a new countryside view.
Thankfully, Martin was the only one in the house and was OK.
“Maybe it wasn’t a very strong tornado, but it was a tornado,” Martin said. “I’m just grateful that my five kids weren’t here.”
“Just going to have to get everything important and figure out where to go from here,” he added.
The Red Cross is assisting victims impacted by the storm.
