Carrousel Studios, SunnyMarch and Landscape are joining forces on six-part psychological thriller The Annecy Murders, inspired by the infamous Chevaline killings in the French Alps, a cold case that continues to draw international attention more than a decade after the crime.
The brutal attack on September 5, 2012 on a quiet, scenic road near Lake Annecy left four dead, including a British Iraqi engineer, his wife, her mother, and a French cyclist. The engineer’s two young daughters miraculously survived.
The killings sparked an investigation spanning multiple countries – including France, the UK, Spain, Israel, Switzerland, and Iraq – involving hundreds of investigators and nearly a thousand witnesses. Theories ranged from familial disputes and lone psychopaths to international espionage and money laundering involving Mossad and Saddam Hussein.
The unresolved mystery returned to the spotlight last summer when French authorities reopened the investigation, further fueling public and media speculation.

Carrousel, the production and financing company founded by Louis Leterrier, Omar Sy, and Thomas Benski in 2024, joins Benedict Cumberbatch’s London-based SunnyMarch and Bob Cooper’s Los-Angeles-based Landscape in bringing this international drama to the screen.
The limited series will film across France and the UK, reflecting the cross-border complexities at the heart of the investigation.
Executive producers are Adam Ackland, Leah Clarke and Benedict Cumberbatch for SunnyMarch; Benski, Cecile Gaget, Leterrier and Sy for Carrousel and Bob Cooper for Landscape.
Landscape CEO and veteran producer Bob Cooper (Maudie, John Tucker Must Die) commented: “We were pulled in right away. It’s rare for a true story to unfold with so many twists and cliffhangers. The case is haunting, the mystery compelling, and the international threads gripping. At its core, The Annecy Murders is a story of obsession.”
The Annecy Murders is SunnyMarch’s first limited series since the Golden Globe and Emmy nominated show Patrick Melrose, and follows a series of high-profile features including The End We Start With, We Live In Time and The Thing With Feathers.
SunnyMarch’s Ackland said of the upcoming series: “As the pursuit of justice continues, we’re very proud to be partnering with Carrousel and Landscape to bring this intricate and deeply affecting cross-border story to light, highlighting the nuanced interplay between the British and French investigative efforts.”
The Annecy Murders marks one of the first productions to be greenlit by Carrousel CEO Gaget since her arrival at the company exactly a year ago.
“This was a no-brainer for Carrousel,” she said. “With the recent reopening of the case, the international resonance, and the unique cultural perspectives on the investigation, we are committed to delivering a powerful and authentic narrative,” she said. “Carrousel’s role in financing and physically producing the series in France underscores our dedication to innovative storytelling.”
Plot specifics and casting details remain under wraps as the creative team navigates ongoing negotiations and sensitive aspects of the story.
The Annecy Murders is set to enter production in 2026.
