A YOUNG man was arrested and charged after a hit-and-run smash in Derry.
The incident occurred in the Culmore Road area of the city centre on Friday evening.

Police caught up with the man who was driving the suspect vehicle in the Racecourse Road area after fleeing the scene.
The 21-year-old was arrested for failing to stop and taken to a nearby police station.
Cops confirmed two vehicles were damaged during the collision but no “serious injuries” were reported.
The man was charged with possession of a Class A controlled drug, driving while disqualified and using a motor vehicle without insurance.
He was also charged with failing to stop where an accident has occurred causing injury, failing to remain where an accident occurred causing injury, and failing to report an accident whereby injury was caused.
A PSNI spokesperson said: “Police investigating a hit-and-run road traffic collision in Derry/Londondery and other offences, have charged a man to court.
“The collision occurred in the Culmore Road area of the city centre on Friday evening, 11th April.
“Serious injuries were not reported – two cars were damaged, however.
“A 21-year-old man who was driving the suspect vehicle fled the scene and was detained and arrested by officers a short time later in the Racecourse Road area.
“He has since been charged with possession of a Class A controlled drug, driving while disqualified and using a motor vehicle without insurance.
“He was also charged with failing to stop where an accident has occurred causing injury, failing to remain where an accident occurred causing injury, and failing to report an accident whereby injury was caused.
“The man is due to appear before Londonderry Magistrates’ Court on Monday morning, 14th April.
“As is usual procedure, the charges are reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.”
Separately, a man was killed in a horror crash between a car and a motorcycle in Co Waterford yesterday.
The motorcyclist was sadly pronounced dead at the scene of the collision near Youghal on the Cork-Waterford border.
Gardai and emergency services rushed to the scene of the incident on the R634 at Ballydasoon shortly before 2pm today.
The driver of the car involved in the collision, a man in his 50s, was transported to Cork University Hospital for assessment.
The motorcylist’s remains have been transferred to the mortuary at Waterford University Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
