FRISCO, Texas — The funeral for Austin Metcalf, the 17-year-old Frisco Memorial High School athlete who was fatally stabbed during a track meet, will be this weekend.
According to Metcalf’s obituary, funeral services will be held on April 12 at 10 a.m. at Hope Fellowship Frisco East, followed by a private burial.
“Austin was a kind-hearted student, navigating the halls of life with dreams yet to be fully realized. Though his time with us was fleeting, the impact he made in his short years was profound—leaving traces of joy and warmth in every moment shared,” his obituary reads.
Metcalf, a junior at Frisco Memorial High School, was fatally stabbed at the University Interscholastic League’s (UIL) District 11-5A championship track meet on April 2, at the Frisco ISD’s Kuykendall Stadium. Another teen, identified by officials as Karmelo Anthony, a 17-year-old student at Frisco Centennial High School, was arrested on a murder charge in connection with the stabbing.
Austin’s brother Hunter previously said he held his brother until first responders started attempting resuscitation.
“I tried to whip around as fast as I could,” Hunter said. “I looked at my brother, and I’m not going to talk about the rest. I tried to help him.”
His mother, Meghan, said she rushed to the hospital after Hunter called her.
“My son is not here anymore, and I don’t understand it,” she said. “He was the most amazing kid. So smart. He had college football guys looking at him to play in college. His goal was to play in college.”
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to a scholarship in honor of Austin here.
