Veteran receiver Eugene Lewis, who scored the last-minute, game-winning touchdown when the Redblacks rallied to beat the Lions at TD Place last week, shared a personal wish for the rematch.

âI hope Garry Peters plays,â Lewis said of the 33-year-old Lions cornerback who watched last Fridayâs game from the sidelines because of a knee injury. âThatâs going to get me going the whole game. I want him to play.â

Lewis wants Peters to play so he can shut his mouth.

âThey talked a lot of trash before the last game,â Lewis said. âYou got guys talking, and theyâre not even playing in the game. That sets up the other young guys, and they thought that they were gonna be able to stop us, and the moment was too big for them.

âSo, at the end of the day, I hope he plays. Thatâs going to get me going, thatâs going to get me motivated. I canât wait.â

Lewis, who broke into the CFL in 2017, admitted heâs had a long-standing feud with Peters, who entered the league in 2016 and is in his seventh season with the Lions.

Lewis suggested he used the most recent verbal exchange with Peters and other Lions as fuel when reaching back to make a tough catch for the score that brought the Redblacks all the way back from a game they had trailed by 17 points in the third quarter.

âWeâve had some good battles and stuff like that,â Lewis said. âWhen I was in Edmonton (in 2023-24), there was a lot (of trash talking) going on over there sometimes, too. I had a game where I had no catches, and heâs kind of living on that. He thinks it was because of him that I didnât have any catches, but that was not the reason.
