Looks like Karla Sofía Gascón heeded Oscars host Conan O’Brien’s words during last night’s telecast.
The Emilia Pérez star took to Instagram to thank the Academy for her recognition and the invite to the ceremony, previously in question following her tweet controversy, in which she expressed anti-Islam and racist remarks that had resulted in some tension between film distributor/streamer Netflix.
In the post shared today, the trans actress also made a winking reference to comedian O’Brien’s jokes about the matter; during the telecast, he alluded to her publicists’ expletive-laden stress and told her, “Karla, if you are going to tweet about the Oscars, my name is Jimmy Kimmel.”

Gascón began in her caption in Spanish, sharing images from the fete: “Thank you to the members of @theacademy for the nomination as best leading actress, for the invitation to the gala; I liked it a lot, very entertaining and fun, especially your fabulous host Jimmy Kimmel, he is fantastic, every day he looks more like the great Conan O’Brien. 😘”
She concluded, “I loved hugging so many friends and colleagues on this return. Congratulations to all the winners, especially to @zoesaldana @camilleofficiel @clementducol. Thank you @netflix @whynotproductions_officiel #jacquesaudiard ♥️ Thank you Emilia Pérez for having taught me so many things.”
Recognized for a leading 13 nominations at the 97th Academy Awards, the musical drama took home Best Original Song for “El Mal,” going to Camille and Clément Ducol, and Best Supporting Actress for Zoe Saldaña.
