A police officer in the Maryville Police Department’s motor unit was critically injured in a crash with a state trooper, officials said.
Two law enforcement officers were involved in a crash Friday night while providing security for Vice President JD Vance’s motorcade in Maryville, Tennessee, leaving one officer critically injured, officials said.
An officer in the Maryville Police Department’s motor unit and a state trooper were involved in the incident “during an executive protection mission involving multiple law enforcement agencies,” Maryville officials said.
A spokesperson for the U.S. Secret Service confirmed to ABC News that the motorcade included Vance.
“The U.S. Secret Service is closely monitoring a serious traffic incident involving local law enforcement personnel that occurred this evening in Maryville, Tennessee, while they were supporting a protective motorcade movement,” Katherine Pierce, a resident agent in charge with the Knoxville office, said in a separate statement. She said the “protectees were not impacted by this incident.”
Pierce added, “Our thoughts are with those officers, their families and their agencies.”
An ambulance that was part of the motorcade stopped and provided immediate medical attention to the injured motor officer, according to Special Agent Jason Pack, director of communications with the Tennessee Department of Safety. The officer was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for further treatment, Pack said Saturday.

Maryville police officials said the officer was in critical condition.
Paramedics also evaluated the trooper involved in the collision and he was not transported, officials said.
“We ask everyone to keep the officer, family and the medical staff in your prayers,” Maryville Police Chief Tony Crisp said in a statement. “All of us at the Maryville Police Department appreciate the concern and outpouring of support from this incredible community.”
City officials said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
