MARTINEZ — A person died in a crash on a Contra Costa freeway Monday morning, the California Highway Patrol said.

Few details were available immediately about the crash, which happened on northbound Interstate 680. The first reports came to the CHP about 10:33 a.m.

The wreck left a white van overturned and ejected the driver into lanes of the freeway just south of the Marina Vista Avenue exit, according to initial reports confirmed by the CHP and witnesses.

Only one lane on northbound I-680 remained open immediately after the crash. The CHP issued a Sig Alert for severe traffic at 10:45 a.m.

No other information was available immediately.
