Police need help to identify a youth suspect after an eight-year-old girl was sexually assaulted at a north Edmonton playground in July.

A male youth on July 7 around 5:30 p.m. approached a group of parents and children at the playground near 109 Street and 162 Avenue, asking if he could join in the play, police said in a Friday news release. It is believed the boy then took the eight-year-old girl into a wooded area beside the park and assaulted her.

Police have been trying to identify the suspect but are now releasing a composite sketch to generate tips about his identity.

The suspect has black hair and appeared to be around five-foot-seven. He was wearing a white T-shirt with a logo across the chest area, white running shoes and light blue jeans.
